The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration announced on September 21, 2012 that it completed removal of all Category I and Category II special nuclear material from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

The removal of material from LLNL is part of a program to consolidate special nuclear material at a smaller number of sites. Sandia lab was de-inventoried in 2008.
