The United States and Norway announced a joint effort that will explore the possibility of downblending the highly-enriched uranium in Norway. According to the NNSA statement, this material poses a challenge due to its thorium content.

In its INFCIRC/912 declaration submitted in July 2019 Norway reported having 1 kg of unirradiated and 3 kg of irradiated HEU.
