U.S. National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) in cooperation with the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kazakhstan, the IAEA, and Russia has successfully completed removal of all HEU from the VVR-K reactor located at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Alatau, near Almaty.

Details of the shipment were discussed in 2016. The reactor was converted to LEU earlier that year.
