Areva signed a contract to supply fuel elements for the FRM-II reactor at the Technical University Munich. The cost of the contract is reported to be "several million euros."
It is not immediately clear what is the source of HEU that will be used in new FRM-II fuel elements - France imports HEU for research reactor fuel from the United States. The most recent shipments (in 2010 and 2012), however, did not list FRM-II as a destination for HEU. Russia supplied HEU to Europe in the past, but this practice has been discontinued.
