It is expected that the transfer will take place between 2010 and 2018. No commitment, however, has been made to stop export of HEU from the United States or to convert the Mo-99 production to LEU targets.
Canada to return HEU from Chalk River to the United States
On April 12, 2010, Prime Minister of Canada announced that Canada and the United States will work together to return spent HEU back to the United States. The United States supplies HEU for the NRU reactor at the Chalk River Laboratories to be used in targets that are used to produce Mo-99. (The NRU reactor has been shut down for repairs since May 2009.)
