BN-600 fast reactor to operate until 2020

Russian fast neutron reactor, BN-600, will continue to operate for ten more years. Rostekhnadzor, the Russian regulatory body, extended the operating license until 31 March 2020. The reactor has been in operation for 30 years. The reactor uses HEU fuel elements with enrichments of 17%, 21%, and 26% and will be able to use Pu-based fuel elements in part of the core.
