On December 10, 2019, the IAEA received the second and final shipment of low enriched uranium at the LEU fuel bank in Kazakhstan. The shipment, 28 cylinders of LEU, was delivered by Kazatomprom. The material was enriched in Russia. The first shipment, delivered by Orano, consisting of 32 cylinders with LEU, arrived at the fuel bank facility at the Ulba Metallurgical Plant in Oskemen (formerly Ust-Kamenogorsk) on October 17, 2019. The contracts with Kazatomprom and Orano were signed in November 2018.
The fuel bank in Kazakhstan, which is owned and operated by the IAEA, was inaugurated in August 2017.
