Pakistan is seen as building fourth plutonium production reactor
Institute for Science and International Security obtained new satellite images of the Khushab site in Pakistan that indicate that construction of a fourth plutonium production reactor might be underway there. In February 2010 IPFM reported that the second reactor at Khushab began operations. Construction of a third reactor began in 2005. According to the new ISIS report, the third reactor does not seem to be operational yet.

On the one hand Pakistan has been demanding billions of dollars in aid to support its economy and help the US fight against terrorism, while on the other it is in the process of building its fourth plutonium reactor, a serious cause of concern for the security of the South Asian region. There needs to be a strict accountability mechanism in place for all the economic and military aid that the US provides Pakistan to ensure that the money is not diverted any such activities.
