Russia created nuclear fuel reserve
Rosatom announced today that it created the first nuclear fuel bank. The bank is a reserve of low-enriched uranium that is being stored at the International Uranium Enrichment Center in Angarsk (the fuel reserve, however, is separate from the IUEC). It consists of 120 tonnes of uranium hexafluoride with uranium enriched to 2-4.5%. The uranium has been placed under IAEA safeguards. An agreement between Russia and IAEA that regulates operations of the fuel reserve was signed in March 2010.
