NIIAR at Dimitrovgrad prepares to enter Mo-99 market

The Scientific Research Institute of Nuclear Reactors (NIIAR) at Dimitrovgrad, Russia, is preparing to produce its fist batch of Mo-99 by the end of the year. NIIAR plans that it will begin with producing 1000 Ci per week for Russian and world market and that by 2012 it will be able to produce about 2,500 Ci a week. It was reported that the isotope will be produced "at three of the research reactors of the institute."

UPDATE 10/14/10: The process at NIIAR will involve U-Al targets with highly-enriched uranium.
