IPFM presentation on Scope and Verification of a Fissile Material (Cutoff) Treaty at the United Nations Conference on Disarmament, Geneva

To help inform discussions at the United Nations Conference on Disarmament (CD), IPFM members Arend Meerburg, Zia Mian and Frank von Hippel made a presentation on the Scope and Verification of a Fissile Material (Cutoff) Treaty. The presentation was sponsored by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Delegation of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament.

The full text of the IPFM Fissile Material (Cutoff) Treaty, including an article-by-article discussion, is available here.

The CD, based in Geneva, has so far not been able to begin implementing the plan of work agreed in May 2009, which included negotiations on a treaty to ban production of fissile materials for nuclear weapons. Reports on the CD meetings are available here.
