Gamma research reactor at Kurchatov Institute is being decommissioned

According to IPFM information, one of the Kurchatov Institute's HEU research reactors, Gamma, is being decommissioned. The fuel has been removed from the reactor and all the equipment is being prepared for utilization.

The Gamma reactor was a small water-cooled water-moderated tank-type reactor with maximum power of about 200 kW. It was operated by the division that worked on transport reactors. The reactor fuel was estimated to contain about 39 kg of HEU with enrichment about 36%.
