Russia completed conversion of Argus research reactor

In July 2014, Argus research reactor at the Kurchatov Institute, reached criticality with low enriched uranium, becoming the first converted reactor in Russia. Argus is an aqueous homogeneous reactor that used 1.71 kg of 90% HEU in 22 liters of aqueous solution of UO2SO4.

Argus was among the six reactors that were included in the feasibility studies under U.S.-Russian Implementing Agreement, signed in December 2010.
