U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority publishes oxide fuel strategy

U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) published Preferred Option on Oxide Fuels, which include spent fuel of foreign light-water reactors that is stored at Sellafield awaiting reprocessing at the THORP plant and the fuel of UK's Advanced Graphite Reactors (AGR). According to the document, NDA decided on a strategy that will involve completing reprocessing contracts at THORP. The plant is expected to continue to operate until 2018. The AGR fuel "will be placed into interim storage pending a decision to dispose of it in a geological disposal facility."
