The U.S. Department of Defense issues a solicitation to "develop an alternative technology and methodology to conduct nuclear survivability testing of US weapons and Space Systems." The technology should provide "the neutron and gamma environment for test and evaluation" and should not "employ highly enriched nuclear materials." The technology will provide an alternative to the Fast Burst Reactor (FBR) at White Sands Missile Range that is currently used for this purpose.
