Russia to complete separation of weapon-grade plutonium

The radiochemical plant at the Mining and Chemical Combine at Zheleznogorsk, began reprocessing of the last batch of fuel irradiated in its ADE-2 reactor on March 6, 2012. The reactor, which was shut down in April 2010, was the last Russian plutonium production reactor. The weapon-grade plutonium separated by the radiochemical plant will be the last weapon-grade material produced in Russia.

Since 1994, the plutonium produced by ADE-2 reactor in Zheleznogorsk and ADE-4 and ADE-5 reactors in Seversk has not been used in the weapons program.
