Japanese utilities increase their stake in Georges Besse II enrichment plant

Two Japanese utilities - Tohoku Electric Power Co. and Kyushu Electric Power Co. - acquired 1% stake each in the company that operates Areva's Georges Besse II enrichment plant. According to the Areva press-release, the two utilities joined the Kansai and Sojitz companies in a group called Japan France Enrichment Investing (JFEI), bringing the total amount of shares owned by the group to 4.5%. The Kansai and Sojitz utilities acquired their stakes in 2009. 

Other outside stakeholders in Société d'Enrichissement du Tricastin (SET), the Georges Besse II operator, are GDF-Suez and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP). Together, outside investors hold 12% of the company.
